GREETINGS PHYSICS AND MATH STUDENTS!

My name is Bill Freeman. I am a retired senior engineering physicist with a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics who worked for over thirty-eight years at a national laboratory. During that time, I enjoyed interacting with students, teachers, and other groups visiting our laboratory as well as participating in online physics forums with middle-school and high-school students. I was also a middle-school science fair judge at local and regional levels for more than twenty years.
I enjoyed these outreach activities so much that about thirteen years ago I decided to broaden my education efforts and I began tutoring part-time, focusing on physics and math, including AP Physics and AP Calculus. My goals are to improve your conceptual understanding of these subjects along with your specific problem-solving skills. Because of my background and experience as a physicist, I also believe that I can help you make connections between those seemingly mundane homework problems that you might be having trouble with and the “real world”.
I enjoy working with individual students ranging from high-school through college undergraduates as well as small groups of students. I’m based in Naperville, Illinois and I conduct most of my tutoring sessions online these days, though I occasionally still do in-person sessions. Fortunately online tutoring has worked out rather well for most of my students.
I have more than 2000 hours of experience tutoring high school and college students from Naperville and its surrounding communities of Lisle, Wheaton, Warrenville, Glen Ellyn, Aurora, Oswego, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, and Woodridge, as well as online students from around the country. If you are interested in my tutoring services, please contact me via email by clicking here. I look forward to discussing your tutoring needs.

My Educational Background
B.S. – Physics – North Carolina State University (1975)
M.A. – Physics – State University of New York- Stony Brook (1977)
Ph.D. – Experimental Nuclear Physics – State University of New York – Stony Brook (1981)
My Physics Qualifications
I have completed undergraduate and/or graduate school coursework in the following physics subjects – classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, astronomy, modern physics and quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics and thermodynamics, solid-state physics, plasma physics, physical optics, nuclear physics, particle physics, quantum field theory, and experimental methods in physics research. I was also a graduate research assistant for four years and a graduate teaching assistant for an undergraduate course on nuclear and particle physics during grad school. Following grad school, I was a post-doctoral physics researcher for two years. I recently retired from a senior engineering physicist position at a national laboratory.
My Mathematics Qualifications
I have completed undergraduate coursework in the following math subjects – differential and integral calculus, advanced calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, advanced differential equations with applications, and complex analysis.
My Availability and Fee
My hours are between 5:30 pm and 10:00 pm Central Time Monday through Friday evenings and my fees for a single student are $65 per hour (online) and $70 per hour (in-person). Each additional student participating in the same session (i.e. a group session) is an additional $25 per hour. Payment is expected at time of service. Please note that my specific availability may vary since it depends on the schedules of my cohort of students.
My Cancellation Policy
I require at least 2 hours notice if you wish to cancel a previously scheduled session. Failure to do so will result in a $30 cancellation fee per cancelling student.
